‘More support’ after strokes

STROKE patients need more support after leaving hospital, and better psychological help, according to survivors of the condition from South Yorkshire.

More than 30 patients, relatives and carers were asked for their views on stroke services during an event at Hellaby Hall in Rotherham, run by Sheffield University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

They said other early warning signs such as confusion, headaches, and leg weakness should be included in the Government’s FAST - Face, Arm, Speech, Time - awareness campaign.

Strokes are the single largest cause of adult disability in the UK.

Last year the condition led to 1,000 hospital admissions in Sheffield.
