A SURPRISE was in store for Natasha Dyas with the arrival of daughter Freya.
The 22-year-old couldn’t make it in time to the Jessop Hospital and ended up giving birth in the Asda car park at Manor Top.
When she started having contractions at home in Richmond Park View, her boyfriend, Jamie Gill, aged 24, called his uncle, Dean Pickering, for a lift in his Mitusbishi Outlander.
But things started happening more quickly than anticipated and Dean, 49, a retired prison officer, was able to help. He said: “I have two kids of my own and I was there at the births, but that was 26 years ago so I couldn’t remember much about what to do. Still, somebody had to do it and I’m just pleased the baby came along without any complications. I have to say it was an incredible experience.”
The Asda staff have asked for a photo of the baby, who weighed 6lb 15oz, for the notice board.
Natasha, who has a daughter Miley, three, said that when they arrived at the Jessop to be checked, staff said: “It’s the Asda baby”.
