A SPECIALIST cancer service in Sheffield which helps over 6,000 people a year is celebrating reaching the final of national competition.

The Cancer Support Centre at Weston Park Hospital has been named as a runner-up in the annual GlaxoSmithKline Impact Awards, organised each year to recognise and reward charities carrying out excellent work to improve people’s health.

Centre manager Karen Holmes said: “It is the first time we have entered these awards and to have been named as a runner -p is a huge honour and tremendous recognition for services which are dedicated to helping cancer patients and their families at the most vulnerable times of their lives.’’
