OCTOGENARIAN Jane Asher will make a splash when she competes in the National Masters swimming competition in Sheffield this weekend.

Jane, who looks nothing like her 80 years, already holds World and European records for swimming and hopes to break another one at Ponds Forge.

Speaking before the competition she said: “I had a hip operation last year and I haven’t really done much since. I have been looking at the records and I think I could be in there.”

It is hoped that a number of World, European and British Records will be broken at the Championships.

The short course event will be split into two age groups, with swimmers aged 25 and up competing in the Masters events and swimmers aged 18 to 24 competing in the national Senior Championships.
