A pair of determined equestrian enthusiasts completed a 13-day journey on horseback to raise thousands of pounds for a good cause.

Debbie Eastwood, aged 60, and fellow rider Lauren Charlton, 25, tackled the 180-mile Pennine Bridleway Trail in aid of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

The pair took on the challenge as Debbie’s son Tom has been treated at the hospital twice for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

They crossed miles of moorland and passed through the Peak District before arriving in Bakewell.

Debbie said: “The ride went better than we could ever have hoped for, and with fantastic support along the way we managed to raise a wonderful amount. I can truly say the experience was one of the happiest of my life.”

The duo, from Wakefield, raised £6,560 for the charity’s Do Your Bit campaign to build a new cancer research and treatment suite.
