Pat Bashton raised a cup with Lord Mayor Peter Rippon to mark her 35th year of holding coffee ‘mornings’ at her home in Beauchief in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
They weren’t alone. Another 150 visitors passed through the door on the day to raise £1,000.
“My coffee mornings last from 9.30am to 8pm,” said Pat, 70, who was a medical secretary at a cancer hospital in Manchester. “Thankfully we never run out of anything, apart from energy, perhaps, but it’s all worth it.”
She was part of a committee that generated at least £140,000 for the charity, and it continues to run an annual gala.
It’s hard work, but enjoyable, said Pat. “I shall keep going while I’m fit enough.”
