Scanner brings autopsies into the 21st century

Centuries-old methods of examining dead bodies in post-mortem examinations could be consigned to the past, following the launch of a new ‘digital autopsy’ machine.

The £3 million scanner was unveiled this week at the Medico-Legal Centre in Upperthorpe, which houses the city’s public mortuary.

The technology is intended to make autopsies less invasive and more dignified.
