THE High Sheriff of South Yorkshire, Andrew Coombe, presented an award to staff at the acute stroke unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in recognition of the “superb care” they gave to his mother-in-law, Mary Hart Dyke.

Mr Coombe, who lives in Sheffield, said: “My mother-in-law was cared for on this ward six months ago and it is a little strange being back here under different circumstances.

“During the time she was here, everyone on the ward was fantastic. I was able to observe how the ward operated. It didn’t matter if I was speaking to a consultant, nurse or cleaner, everyone took the time to help and to show they cared. Nothing was too much trouble.”
