A GRIEVING father is leading a Christmas campaign to pay tribute to South Yorkshire children whose lives have been cruelly cut short.

Harry Finlayson, aged 54, is launching this year’s Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice’s annual Light Up A Life event in memory of his daughter Georgia, marking the one-year anniversary of her death.

Georgia was just 12 years old when she was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour and given months to live in December 2010.

The youngster began a gruelling course of radiotherapy but her family stopped it after three weeks as it made her sick and tired. They were keen for Georgia, of Maltby, to enjoy the time she had left.

She spent the last days of her life in the North Anston hospice before she passed away on December 14 last year. Despite it being an incredibly difficult period for Harry and Georgia’s relatives, including brothers Alex and James, they still have happy memories of that time.

Harry said: “As Georgia’s illness progressed and she became unable to get around we were told about Bluebell Wood.

“Without it, Georgia and all her family would not have been able to cope as well as we did. To us and our family and friends it was a place we could relax, have fun and live as you would at home.”

Bluebell Wood is inviting families to remember someone close to them this Christmas by taking part in Light Up A Life. Dedications will be entered into a book of light available to view at the hospice and online from December 15. To dedicate a light call 01909 517 360.
