FOUR new free events for mountain bike fans were launched this week at Parkwood Springs.
The first event, organised by Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside, took place on Wednesday and the sessions make the most of Parkwood Springs' varied landscape to offer a range of tracks perfect for all levels of experience.
The mountain biking is provided by OTC, who supply bikes and helmets for all event goers.
Jon Dallow from Sheffield City Council's Parks and Countryside said: "Parkwood Springs is one of Sheffield city centre's best green assets, providing a rich and varied terrain perfect for walking, running and biking amongst other activities.
"From several vantage points within the parkland you can see incredible views across the city.
"The Parkwood landscape lends itself particularly well to mountain biking as within the site you can find tracks to suit all levels, from gravelly paths to serious technical descents.
"Through these events we hope to be able to introduce many people to the Parkwood site and its potential."
These events are part of a programme of free events lined up for Parkwood Springs throughout 2008 as Sheffield City Council's Parks and Countryside continues its programme to develop and improve the large area of parkland towards a potential country park. Bikes and safety equipment will be provided but bikers are advised to dress appropriately. Shorts and trainers are ideal.
lFurther events scheduled for later in the year are July 30, August 13 and August 27. For further information call Jon Dallow on 0114 203 7756.
