GUESTS helped raise more than £1,000 for good causes when the Bishop of Sheffield held the annual garden open day at his home.

The Right Reverend Dr Steven Croft and his wife Ann opened the gardens at Bishopscroft, Snaithing Lane, Ranmoor, Sheffield, for an afternoon of stalls and music.

Dr Croft said the event went ‘brilliantly’ and plenty of cash was collected for St Luke’s Hospice and the Cathedral Archer Project.

About 300 visitors listened to music from the Dinnington Brass Band and browsed stalls selling refreshments, plants and bric-a-brac.

Dr Croft said it was the third opening he has held under the National Gardens Scheme, but the tradition dates back more than 30 years.

He said: “We were delighted with the turnout, we really enjoyed it. It’s a lovely thing to be able to do. We’ll definitely be doing it again next year.”

Features in the garden include an orchard with fruit trees and a large pond.
