A SHEFFIELD woman is aiming to lose six stone so she can start a family – after suffering a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy.
Claire Crowley, aged 35, and husband Roger, 39, have been trying for a baby since they were married five years ago.
After two failed pregnancies, the second of which saw Claire needing emergency surgery, the couple, who live in Southey Hill, Parson Cross, have been offered fertility treatment.
But Claire’s doctors have told her she needs to shed a third of her 18-stone weight to be eligible for IVF and to give her a better chance of conceiving.
Claire, who sells cruise holidays for a living, has already lost two stone, and she has turned her dieting into a fundraiser for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust.
“Being healthy and losing weight is a part of my lifestyle now,” she said.
The trust helped her through the trauma of her second failed pregnancy, an ectopic pregnancy in which a fertilised egg implants itself outside the womb.
Her chances of being able to conceive naturally were reduced by the removal of a damaged fallopian tube.
“The trust is brilliant. They give you support and you can talk to people who have gone through the same thing.”
