An INQUIRY has been launched after a Sheffield woman died - the day after she ended up on the floor during an altercation with South Yorkshire Police officers.

The 61-year-old was found dead at her home last Saturday following an incident in Southey Green Road, Southey Green, Sheffield, on Friday, August 10, at about 5pm.

A spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commission said: “It is reported the 61-year-old woman became involved in an altercation with the police officers and ended up on the floor.

“On Saturday, August 11, the woman was found dead at her home address.

“An independent investigation has now begun. This will examine the circumstances of the incident and, in particular, how the woman came to be on the floor.”

The IPCC said members of the public may have recorded footage of the fracas on their mobile phones and wants to speak to witnesses or those with footage.

A police spokeswoman said: “We would like to pass our condolences to the family of the 61-year-old woman.The force immediately referred this incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and will fully cooperate with the IPCC.

“We would encourage any member of the public who has any relevant information to contact the IPCC.”
