The future is looking bright for a Sheffield student after he was made a firm’s first apprentice.
Computer fan Blake Mitchell, aged 18, is set to learn his trade in the world of technology with High Availability Hosting, based at Holbrook.
He is the first young trainee to be hired by the company and will learn how to look after and maintain its server equipment.
HA Hosting currently supports businesses in South Yorkshire and the UK. Through the national apprenticeship scheme which specialises in helping youngsters to build a career in the IT sector, Blake will be given the opportunity to develop his knowledge of computer networks and skills.
The teen impressed interviewers with his knowledge and passion – which began when he was given a broken PC by a relative. He stripped the machine down and restored it over time.
Blake, who studied at Sheffield City College before landing his dream job, said: “It’s still very early days in my apprenticeship, but I’ve learned a lot already.
“It is not only helping me to develop my computing skills, but it’s also giving me experience of working with customers.
“There’s a lot to learn, but I’m really enjoying it.”
