AN ITALIAN-STYLE cafe is preparing to open in Norfolk Row after a move across Sheffield city centre.
Cafe Gusto, which used to be in Church Street, is asking the council for a licence that allows it to open and to sell alcohol between 8am and 11pm. The application, which also envisages an outdoor seating area, is due to be considered on Tuesday by councillors.
However, an objection has been lodged by an existing business – not named in council papers – on Norfolk Row which fears the availability of alcohol will affect the “haven of calm” currently offered on the precinct.
There has been very little trouble but where there have been problems, it has been the result of alcohol, often the result of business people having had too much to drink at lunchtime, the objector argues. “I am just concerned that if alcohol is readily available on Norfolk Row, then these cases will increase.”
