THEY are partners at John Lewis and now they are partners in life.

Sue Clark and Matthew Lumb, who work at the department store in Barkers Pool, where employees are called partners and share in the firm’s profits, were married at the Mercure St Paul’s Hotel in the city centre.

The 18% bonus all John Lewis workers received this year helped to pay for the ceremony and a honeymoon in the Canary Islands.

Sales assistant Sue, 49, said: “Without John Lewis we would never have got together. I started work there three years ago and Matthew interviewed me for the job and then became my manager.

“We became friends and then we got together and we moved in together into our home in Meadowhead. Matthew proposed in Paris in 2009 – it was very romantic.”

But she grinned: “They don’t let us work together any more!”

Matthew, 38, a stock manager, said: “It’s been a wonderful, wonderful day. We had about 50 guests and some people even popped over from work during their lunch break.

“They kept checking their watches to make sure they were back on time!”

A church blessing is being held this weekend in Maidstone, Kent, where Sue comes from.
