A masked raider held a knife to a shop assistant’s throat and forced her to open the till at a Sheffield newsagent’s.

Elizabeth Hughes, aged 52, was left shaken by the attack at Birley Moor News in Birley Moor Road.

“She’s worked here for 15 years and the reaction from customers has been amazing - we’ve been showered with flowers and get well cards,” said shop owner Kassim Ahmed, aged 48.

The robber, whose face was covered by a black balaclava, stole around £600 in cash, taking the till drawer - which was later recovered - on Saturday just before 3pm.

The attacker was around 6ft 3ins tall, in his early 20s and skinny and wearing a black sweatshirt and grey hood.
