Blind ex-servicemen will havechance to improve their IT skills thanks to a charity’s newly refurbished facilities in Sheffield.
The IT suite at Blind Veterans UK Sheffield rehab and training centre on Fulwood Road will help ex-servicemen to improve their skills and focus on the benefits of using social media.
The revamp was funded by Sheffield-based law firm Irwin Mitchell, whose staff helped with painting work, as part of a long-term partnership. So far Irwin Mitchell has raised £20,000 for the charity.
Andrew Buckham, associate solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, said: “It’s great to have a project which we can get hands on with and make a difference, where we can meet some of the people who will benefit. It’s fantastic to hear how much benefit the IT suite is having.”
Gaye Staff, IT manager at the centre, said: “The new IT suite is making a big difference to the way in which we can support the learning of our members.”
“It enables group teaching, which is especially good for our social networking training.”
