A SHEFFIELD lad is heading for a new career beneath the ocean waves as a submariner.
Daniel Price, aged 20, from Sothall, has passed the first stage of Royal Navy training at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.
He has completed a 10-week course designed to give him the basic skills he will rely upon throughout his career - which culminated in a passing-out-parade in front of family and friends.
The former Rotherham College of Arts and Technology student previously worked as an electrical assembler.
But Daniel said: “I wanted a career that would be non-mainstream, with good benefits and excellent training which would help me after I have the left the Navy. The training was a real test of mental endurance. My ambition now is to get through the next stage of training and possibly study for a degree.”
With the first phase of his training complete, Daniel’s next port of call is HMS Sultan in Hampshire where he will learn skills in marine engineering to keep subs running at peak effectiveness.
