More than 11,000 people have signed a petition calling for better road safety at the spot in Sheffield where 14-year-old Jasmyn Chan was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Petition organiser Sandra Bradley hopes the extent of the support for improvements to Normanton Hill, Intake, will finally prompt the council to take action.
“We have been talking about speed down this hill for a long, long time,” she said. “It should never have come to this. But if nothing is done on this road, it is going to happen again. I can’t express the importance of a controlled crossing.”
The petition has triggered a council debate, on July 2.
Hundreds of people attended Jasmyn’s funeral last week at City Road.
A 32-year-old man has been bailed in connection with the death of the Birley Community College student.
