Accused ‘in Norfolk’ at time of allegations

A man accused of sexual offences against five girls told a jury he was living in Norfolk at the time offences against one of his alleged South Yorkshire victims occurred.

Lee Wayne Crutchley, aged 45, denies 16 sex offences against five girls including indecent assault, sex with a girl under 13 and two charges of rape.

One of the complainants said she was in a four-year sexual relationship with Crutchley which started when she was 12.

But he told the jury at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday that was not the case as he had been living in Norfolk in the early 1990s, when the relationship is alleged to have started.

Crutchley, of Victoria Street, Dinnington, Rotherham, has previously said he did have sex with the complainant, but only on one occasion when she was aged 16.

David Gordon, prosecuting, said Crutchley was not in full-time employment at all times while living in Norfolk and could have travelled back from there to South Yorkshire frequently.

But Crutchley said the long drive and a lack of money meant he only went back to South Yorkshire once or twice every two months to visit family.

The trial continues.
