Arrest after dog’s ‘horrific’ death

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the death of a dog which was found beaten, tied to a tree and set on fire in Sheffield.
Police said yesterday (Wednesday) that a 28-year-old man has been bailed pending further enquiries on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
Both police and the RSPCA expressed their horror after the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was discovered on a path off Manor Laith Road, Skye Edge.
Lee Booth, aged 43, who found the animal, said: “It is really worrying to think that there are people out there who could do something as evil as this.”
An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “This poor dog is likely to have suffered a painful and horrific death.”
Police, who are appealing for witnesses, estimate the light coloured male Staffordshire Bull Terrier was tortured between February 18 and 24 February, on a path near allotments. “Officers believe the dog suffered terribly before dying.”
Charity Crimestoppers offered a £1,000 reward for information.
