An Aston Villa fan has been banned from football matches for three years after being found in possession of a smoke grenade at a friendly against Chesterfield.

Scott Maxwell, aged 21, of Thirlmere Road, Hinckley, was arrested at a match at the Proact Stadium on July 30. He was later charged with possession of a pyrotechnic device at a designated sporting event.

He appeared at North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates’ Court where he was given a three-year football banning order and fined £245.
