Bid to stop shootings in Sheffield

MORE ‘gang injunctions’ are being planned in Sheffield to reduce the risk of shootings.

Police will ban criminals suspected of involvement with firearms from contacting and associating with each other.
The injunctions are due to be issued in the wake of shootings on London Road and Halfway Gardens in the early hours of New Year’s Day, and a spate last year in Parson Cross, where 12 injunctions were served on rival groups who opened fire on each other and homes.

District Commander Chief Supt David Hartley said numbers of firearm-related crimes were falling.

But he added: “I will continue to make considerable resources available to ridding the streets of these firearms, and will use more gang injunctions to have more control over those suspected of being involved to minimise the risk they pose.”
