AROUND 40 black bags of household waste were strewn next to playing fields - near a council sign warning of fines of up to £20,000.
Andrew Sobieralski, aged 49, who discovered the rubbish off Sutherland Road, Pitsmoor, said it was “an absolute disgrace”.
He said he wasn’t sure whether it was because of the introduction of fortnightly instead of weekly bin collections. “But other council cuts to street cleaning and environmental services are not helping.”
Lib Dem spokesman for recycling Coun David Baker said: “Clearly, fly-tipping is unacceptable is any circumstances but you can’t help feeling Labour’s decision to cut recycling and weekly collections at the same time is at least partly to blame.”
Labour cabinet member Coun Jack Scott said fly-tipping was being done in the dead of night and in hidden-away places. It was “illegal and disgusting” and the council was working with the police to take tougher action against offenders. “No street cleaning and environmental health staff have been lost due to the cuts.”
