Bowl with Steelers to help homelessness charity
SHEFFIELD Steelers players are swapping their skates for bowling shoes to boost a homelessness charity.
The ice hockey stars are taking part in The Roundabout Bowl-Raiser on Thursday, March 28 – those taking part can bowl with the squad to raise cash for Roundabout, which helps homeless young people in Sheffield.
Chris Frank, of the Steelers, is a member of the volunteer fundraising group.
He said: ”I wanted to get involved with Roundabout because it’s a charity that works so hard to bring aid to locals in need of a helping hand.
“The Steelers supporters have been so kind to me since my arrival that helping set up The Roundabout Bowl-Raiser allowed me to show my generosity by trying to give back to the community before I leave.”
The bowling event takes place at the Hollywood Bowl, Valley Centertainment, from 7pm.
Money raised will help pay for a £1 million refurbishment to Roundabout’s emergency hostel in Highfields, the only one of its kind for young people aged 16 to 21 in the region.
Amy Casbolt, fundraising co-ordinator at Roundabout, said: “We are delighted to have the support of the Roundabout volunteer fundraising group.
“They have worked incredibly hard to organise this exciting event, which will help raise vital funds for young homeless people across Sheffield.”
Tickets cost £15 and include two games of bowling, a raffle and prizes
