Brutal Sheffield dog killer must be found
DOG lovers today spoke of their shock at the discovery of a dog beaten and burned to death on a Sheffield estate – and said its killer must be caught.
Geraldine Mullen, aged 47, who has a dog herself and normally walks her pet on the same path off Manor Laith Road, Skye Edge, where the remains of the dead Staffie were found, said: “It is disgusting, horrific.
“How that poor animal must have suffered does not bear thinking about.
“I can’t express how I feel, I have been in tears about it.
“Whoever did this needs help. If they can do this what else are they capable of? They are a danger to society.”
Zrinka Simic, 36, who has a 12-month-old Staffie herself, said: “I saw the dog myself on Saturday morning and reported it to Rain Rescue animal sanctuary – it was shocking, just terrible.
“There was a lot of blood and I could see it had been burned.
“The only kind of person who could do this is a psychopath. I can’t understand how anyone could do it.
“Someone knows something about this and they need to start talking. The police need to catch who did this.
“I really believe the pictures need to be published to show just what this dog went through before he died. I am appalled.
“My dog is not just my pet, he is a member of the family, so it is difficult to put into words how I feel about a dog being bludgeoned and then set on fire, possibly while it was still alive. I get too overwhelmed by the feeling of anger and helplessness.
“There are not many sandy-coloured Staffordshire Bull Terriers in the area and someone definitely knows something.”
Caswell Blake, 71, who has an allotment near where the dog was found, said: “Whoever did this needs hanging. There are some really cruel people in this world. A dog is a defenceless animal, how could it protect itself against that? It is ridiculous that somebody even has it in them to do such a thing.”
Nicola Bradshaw, 39, who runs the Bestseller convenience store close to the crime scene, said: “Everyone who has been in has been talking about it – everyone is absolutely disgusted.
“For those people who saw this poor dog in this state it must have been horrendous. Whoever did this must be sick in the head.”
Linda Napper, an animal welfare officer at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, said she was ‘sickened’ by the attack.
“It is disgusting – barbaric – and whoever did this needs to be caught. If they could do this to a dog, what on earth else are they capable of?
“It has sickened me to the pit of my stomach. That poor dog must have suffered a horrific death. Nobody should be able to get away with doing that.”
