Bus firm in ring over stunt

A boxing match stunt to promote one Sheffield bus company over another was criticised this week by Liberal Democrats.

The bout in Fargate last Saturday was designed to highlight the savings of a £12 First Week ticket over a £13.50 Stagecoach bus and tram weekly ticket.

Lib Dem transport spokesperson Ian Auckland said: “The First bus company receive a considerable taxpayer subsidy and recently hiked their bus fares by 13%. It’s disappointing to then see that money being spent telling people not to use the local tram network.”

Local people want a fully integrated, effective and value for money transport network, not “silly PR stunts”.
