Cash boost for three charities

A FUNDRAISING night hosted by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield generated more than £2,000 for three city charities.

John Campbell invited guests to Owlerton Greyhound Stadium to drum up support for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and the Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders.

In total, guests raised £2,200 for the three organisations.

John Gilburn, managing director of Owlerton, said: “The event was a great success – more than 1,200 people came down and supported the charities.

“The raffle raised £400 and auctioning off signed items, like the Sheffield United shirt, brought in £225. Our 300-seater restaurant completely sold out and we donated a share of its takings on the night to the fund.”
