A man has been jailed for 14 months after he admitted stealing a car he was meant to be road testing and driving it dangerously around the streets.

Robert Carson, aged 27, of Derby Road, Chesterfield, made off with the car after taking it on a test drive with the owner in Chesterfield.

Derby Crown Court heard that, when they arrived back at the owner’s house from the test drive, the owner got out of the car - but Carson sped off.

He drove on the wrong side of the road, shot through a red light, and careered into the grounds of Chesterfield Hospital, where he was pursued by police.

Carson admitted stealing the car, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, and was banned for four years.
