Traffic control measures at a Chesterfield roundabout are to be removed earlier than planned after a review into the project.
The restrictions around Hornsbridge Island in the town centre are expected to be removed soon after the August Bank Holiday, provided the good weather continues.
The borough council asked the contractors NT Killingley and Derbyshire County Council, which is responsible for roads in the county, to urgently carry out the review to reduce the delays for drivers approaching the island during busy periods.
The change of plan has been made possible due to the weather and working some night shifts and at weekends, putting it ahead of schedule. The county council is also looking at measures to ease the strain on the A617.
