DAME Ellen MacArthur’s cancer charity is offering sailing trips in Scotland to young people recovering from the disease.

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust will set up a sailing hub in Largs, North Ayrshire for two weeks in July.

Young cancer and leukaemia sufferers aged between eight and 24 will be able to take part in four-day trips around the Scottish coast on-board 38ft-48ft cruising yachts.

The trips are being funded with £40,000 from the People’s Postcode Trust, enabling the charity to charter the boats from Largs.

MacArthur, from Whatstandwell, near Matlock, in Derbyshire, has now met Scotland’s Health Secretary Alex Neil to discuss the project.

The charity has been running from the Isle of Wight for nearly a decade.
