Driver’s pothole claim denied

MOTORIST Jon Ainsley has labelled the council as an ‘absolute disgrace’ for refusing to pay to replace a tyre burst by a pothole in Kingfield Road, Nether Edge.

Mr Ainsley, who lives in Collegiate Crescent, said the pothole was more than a foot long and up to three inches deep. He took photos and asked for compensation, having paid £60 for a new tyre for his Rover MG ZR, only to be told by council contractor Amey they would not offer anything.

Cabinet member Coun Jack Scott said: “Unfortunately, accidents like these do sometimes happen and while we will carry out repairs to the road as quickly as possible, we aren’t liable for damage.”
