Fire crews help out in flooded Berkshire

South Yorkshire firefighters have been drafted in to help Berkshire residents battle severe flooding.

A team of six firefighters have taken a fire engine to the county, following an urgent call for assistance from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Initially the team from Sheffield Central and Rotherham stations will be based at the village of Cookham Dean on the banks of the river Thames.

They will be assisting residents with flood defences and helping pump out flooded properties.

Area manager Mick Mason said: “A crew was deployed on Thursday morning, with further crews available to go at a moment’s notice if needed.”

The crew has been despatched for two days but could be there longer.
