It’s a sign that spring is coming - Hathersage outdoor pool is open again.
More than 300 swimmers took the plunge last Saturday, despite uncertain weather.
“Last year we had snow and there was a bit of a novelty factor,” said assistant manager George Foy. “We didn’t have the snow this year, but there was wind, hail and rain. We had the bandstand open and the band (The Millstone Grit, including parents of younger swimmers) played through the hail.
George added: “We had loads of people - season tickets and the general public.”
More than 300 season tickets were sold over the weekend, compared with 600 for the whole season last year.
A swimathon last Sunday as part of Sport Relief attracted about 90 people. The pool, a gift to the village from Sheffield razor blade manufacturer George Lawrence, is heated to 28 deg C.
