Historic site to be re-dedicated

A DEDICATION ceremony today will mark the restoration of a medieval landmark for future generations.

The Monk Bretton Cross in Barnsley was restored as part of a scheme set up by Barnsley Council, in partnership with the Fair Share Trust, English heritage and local residents.

The cross, erected over 700 years ago, faced significant damage from passing vehicles. It is now protected as the road has been widened and a traffic island with protective bollards has been put in place.

To mark the completion of the scheme there will be a dedication ceremony at the cross at 10.45am today after a service at St Paul’s Church at 10am on Burton Road in Monk Bretton.
