Junior doctors to begin 48-hour strike at South Yorkshire hospitals

Junior doctors working at South Yorkshire hospitals intend to take part in nationwide industrial action over government changes to their contracts.

The British Medical Association and Junior Doctors intend to take action from 8am tomorrow until 8am Friday, April 8. Another two day strike is planned for April 26 and 27.

The hospitals have plans to keep disruption to services as a minimum.

Dr Richard Jenkins, medical director at Barnsley Hospital said: “I’d like to reassure our patients and the public that as always, patient safety and quality care remains our top priority and will continue to throughout.

“The Trust recognises the important role that Junior Doctors play in the NHS and in our Hospital. It is clear they have not taken the decision lightly.”
