Mad Friday: South Yorkshire police ‘Twitterthon’
Crime:Latest news.
POLICE published dozens of incidents on social networking website Twitter to give members of the public an insight into how busy they were on ‘Mad Friday’.
The force ‘tweeted’ between noon and midnight yesterday.
Among the incidents were reports of a driver failing to pay for petrol in Monk Bretton, Barnsley, a collision in Exchange Street in Sheffield city centre and a burglary in Clifton, Rotherham.
A child attacked another child in Woodhouse, reports of a couple arguing in the street in Fir Vale, Sheffield, four youths playing on railway tracks in Brightside, Sheffield and a search for a missing boy in Wheatley, Doncaster.
The ‘Twitterthon’ called ‘Merry Tweetmas’ was organised in order to give members of the public an insight into policing - on one of the busiest days of the year for the force.
South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright said: “The Twitterthon will awareness of the diverse and complex role of policing and hopefully build trust and confidence with the public, as they are able to see, on one of the busiest periods, how much time and resources officers spend policing and keeping the community safe over the festive period.
The tweets were also shown on vans located in prominent places in Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield and Doncaster.
