A cabaret performer accused of raping a woman while dressed as Herman Munster character Frankenstein at a Sheffield swingers’ club told a jury he’d never force himself on anyone.

Jeremy Frazer Newsome Smith, aged 45, was giving evidence at Sheffield Crown Court.

He denies raping a 22-year-old woman in a mirrored smoking room at Attercliffe club La Chambre’s Halloween party last October 27 and said they had consensual sex.

Smith, formerly of Wakefield but now from Regent Street, London, said they met after she took part in a game during his show and began chatting and flirting.

He said they got on really well and were ‘lovey dovey’.

The jury heard the couple and their friends went upstairs to watch an orgy in the club’s ‘playrooms’ before becoming separated.

The woman alleges Smith took her to an indoor smoking room and raped her.

Prosecutor Charlotte Baines said: “Once you got her by herself in the room you proceeded to rape her, didn’t you Mr Smith?

“I absolutely did not,” he replied. I would never, ever, ever force myself on anybody, I would never do that.

“She didn’t give any indication that she didn’t want any sexual activity whatsoever.”

Miss Baines said: “You couldn’t believe your luck, could you?”

He replied: “She was a very attractive girl, I was very pleased that we were getting on so well.”

Miss Smith said: “You had pulled one of the best looking girls in the club in your view?”

He replied: “Yes, you could say that.”

“You just got carried away with this whole situation?” said Miss Baines.

“We both got carried away with it. It happened rather quickly, it was passionate,” said Smith.

Asked if he forced himself on her Smith said: “I swear to God I didn’t, I absolutely did not.”
The trial continues.
