A 24-year-old man has died in hospital two days after being assaulted on a Barnsley street.

He died in hospital on Sunday morning after being involved in an incident on Sunderland Terrace, near the town centre, at around 5.50pm on Friday.

Emergency services were called to reports of a disturbance and the man, who has not been named, was found unconscious and was taken to hospital.

Magomeds Hizrijevs, of Doncaster Road, Barnsley, has been charged with manslaughter and will appear before magistrates in the town tomorrow.

A post-mortem examination will also take place tomorrow.
