More police officers are to be provided with iPads to help keep them out on the beat, after new funding was secured.
A joint bid by South Yorkshire and Humberside’s police and crime commissioners has secured an extra £1.8 million funding for the mobile technology scheme.
It follows an earlier award of £1 million announced in February this year. Frontline officers and PCSOs will be supplied with iPads that will allow them to complete paperwork on the go rather than having to return to stations.
Shaun Wright, South Yorkshire PCC, said: “This funding will allow more officers to spend valuable time in their local communities. The public want a greater police presence on their streets and this technology provides the opportunity.”
