UK Volunteer of the Year: Dr Chamu Kuppuswamy, Peak District National Park

Peak District volunteer Dr Chamu Kuppuswamy, a law lecturer at Sheffield University, has won a national award for her outstanding contribution to national parks.

After qualifying a volunteer ranger last year, she was Volunteer of the Year for championing the national park to ethnic minority communities and using social media to raise awareness of the link between local issues and global environmental challenges.

Peak District rangers won Volunteer Group of the Year in the awards, hosted by BBC TV Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury.
