Pedal power preparation to raise cash for cancer charity
A WOMAN whose friend has been diagnosed with cancer is preparing to cycle the Trans Pennine Trail for charity.
Helena Coldron, aged 31, is planning to cycle 207 miles from Southport in the North West to Hornsea on the East coast.
The teaching assistant and fitness enthusiast, from Rotherham, will donate all the money raised to Weston Park Cancer Hospital in Sheffield.
She said: “Biking the Trans Pennine Trail has always been a personal goal of mine, and after a close personal friend was diagnosed with cancer I was determined more than ever to do it - and raise money for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity at the same time.”
Each year around 900 people from Rotherham are referred to Weston Park Hospital for specialist cancer treatment.
Helena, who is completing the bike ride with two colleagues and a friend, expects the challenge to take four days to complete.
Helen Gentle, from the hospital, said: “The money raised will make a big difference and go towards funding the research, treatment and care undertaken at the hospital.”
