Police appealed today for an on-the-run murder suspect to hand himself in.

Officers from Humberside Police and South Yorkshire Police are searching for 53-year-old John Heald in connection with the death of Bei Carter, a 49-year-old guest house landlady from Bridlington who died on Friday night.

He has been previously been described by police as a ‘very dangerous individual’ and was spotted in Rotherham and Mexborough over the weekend.

Mr Heald, who has links with Sheffield and Rotherham, is believed to have been a resident at the Morayland Hotel in Marshall Avenue in Bridlington when Mrs Carter was murdered late on Friday.

But efforts to track him down have not succeeded - leading to today’s direct appeal to Heald.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Baldwin, senior investigating officer, said: “Our investigation into the murder of Bei Carter is continuing and we are working very closely with South Yorkshire Police.

“I would appeal directly to John Heald to hand himself in at the earliest opportunity so that we can talk to him and find out what has happened.”

Anyone with information should ring the Major Incident Room on 01377 208989 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
