The regimental colours of the York and Lancaster Regiment are hanging again in St George’s Chapel at Sheffield Cathedral ready for the building’s reopening after renovation before Easter and the centenary of the outbreak of World War One. The Sheffield City Battalion, the ‘Sheffield Pals’, was part of the regiment that suffered heavy losses on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
