Snooker fans are on cue to pocket over £20,000 for the statue to honour Sheffield’s Women Of Steel - the chosen charity of this year’s eleventh annual Cue Ball.
The black tie dinner, at Mercure St Paul’s Hotel on Friday, will herald the start of the World Snooker Championship which begins next Saturday at The Crucible.
Snooker stars and showbiz and media personalities will again mix with fans, as over 240 key people from the city region celebrate the 17-day tournament, which will run from April 19 to May 5.
Auctions, raffles and other fundraising on the night has raised over £200,000 for various charities at the Cue Ball’s first 10 events.
Money raised this year will boost the appeal for a £150,000 statue outside Sheffield City Hall to honour the Women Of Steel, who helped to win two world wars by keeping munitions factories going in Sheffield and other regions while men went off to fight.
‘Money can’t buy’ prizes will be auctioned by TV presenter Rob Walker.
Sheffield’s ABC superstar Martin Fry, the Look Of Love hitmaker, has donated VIP tickets to meet him backstage for a champagne drink at the Rock The Moor show in Leeds, on June 21.
Sheffield’s Grammy award winning songwriter and producer Eliot Kennedy has donated the chance to be recorded at his world famous Steelworks studio.
Guests can also win a World Snooker Championship Final Package for two to attend the Dafabet Snooker World Championship Final in style, with a VIP Championship Champagne and Canape Reception in the Winter Garden plus mid-session VIP refreshments in the private lounge.
The Cue Ball is a partnership between World Snooker, Sheffield Council and St Paul’s Mercure.
Patron Mick Crofts said: “Last year we raised in excess of £20,000 for the Lord Mayor’s Charities and will be aiming for the same in 2014 to provide the final push for the Women Of Steel statue. We are very proud over the last 10 Cue Ball events to have raised over £200,000 for charities.”
Cue Ball tickets now limited. For information contact Viv Fella on Sheffield 0114 273 6148 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
