A woman who was thrown from the path to footballing success after her life took a different turn has challenged herself to learn the Bolero in aid of her mental health charity.

Caroline Elwood-Stokes played football at Kilnhurst United, now Rotherham United, until she fell pregnant at the age of 15.

She was forced to stop playing and Caroline, of Lowedges, fell into severe depression. Thanks to medical support she has turned her life around and is helping others who have suffered similar problems through her charity, Football’s Awareness of Depression Football Community, or FAD FC.

Now she is raising funds for FAD FC by learning iconic ice dance the Bolero, which was made famous by Winter Olympians Torvill and Dean 30 years ago.

Caroline, 33, who is being guided by coaches at iceSheffield, said: “When I lost my football career I went through many years with severe depression and even the mention of football made me cry. Now since setting up FAD FC I have been able to help others in the community who may be experiencing similar difficulties.”
