SHEFFIELD’S gritters and snow wardens are due to be given an official pat on the back next week.

Councillors will be presented with a motion on Wednesday expressing the thanks of the authority and the people of Sheffield “for all their hard work keeping Sheffield’s roads safe through the bad weather”.

It also appreciates that community snow wardens are unpaid volunteers.

The motion, from Labour cabinet member Jack Scott, says there have been no major incidents in Sheffield throughout the bad weather.

And a political point is being made - that the Government looks seriously at climate change “which has led to this unprecedented cold spell in the UK”.
