Sheffield's Mistress Cutler takes to the sky for charity jump

The wife of Sheffield's Master Cutler led by example when she jumped out of a plane to help raise money for charity.

Mistress Cutler Karen McKay was joined by friends and family for the 15,000ft skydive as part of this year’s Master Cutler’s Challenge.

Her husband Craig decided to use his year as Master Cutler to support St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield and Rotherham Hospice, and thanks to Karen’s efforts the campaign is more than £4,000 better off.

Karen jumped with 18-year-old son Jim, sister-in-law Sharon McKay and architect Tim Justice of Coda Studios.

After the skydive she said: “It was fantastic – I’d do it all again tomorrow. There’s no other feeling quite like it.

“It was a beautiful day to do it with crystal clear skies and no wind at all and that moment that you’re about to do it is so exhilarating – I was like a giddy child.

“When you are falling through the air there is a feeling of complete and utter freedom that is like nothing I have ever known.

“And to know that between us we have raised more than £4,000,with more money still coming in, really does make me want to get right back up there again!”

More than 100 South Yorkshire businesses have signed up to this year’s Master Cutler’s Challenge so far. The annual campaign asks firms to turn a £50 investment into as much money as possible for a good cause.

Businesses can use the £50 in any way they see fit to raise as much money as possible for this year’s two chosen charities. Since its inception in 2008 the challenge has raised more than £1 million.

Speaking after he launched this year’s challenge in February, Master Cutler Craig McKay said: “It’s brilliant to see so many people working to raise funds. This is a vehicle that’s in its ninth year. If we get the right charities behind it and if we present it well, then it can inspire people to do a little bit more.”
