The week-long initiative celebrates the contribution millions of volunteers make across the country while encouraging others to dedicate some of their spare time to volunteering.
Available every day of the year, round the clock, Samaritans provide a safe place for anyone struggling to cope, whoever they are, however they feel, whatever life has done to them.
Andrea Day, director of Sheffield Samaritans, said:“We currently have around 130 ‘listening’ volunteers prepared to offer 13 hours a month to respond to callers who phone, visit the centre or contact us by emails or text.
“We don’t give advice or make judgements, we just listen to callers in distress and try to help them find a way forward. We also welcome support volunteers to help in the office or at our charity shop on Chapel Walk.”
